Food, Coffee and Beer

This is not really an article. I just want to share my enthusiasm for the coffee champions out there. Not just the ones who win, Like Alejandro, from Viva Espresso in San Salvador, but for champions in the bigger sense of the world.

I’m a big fan of food (no pun intended about the size of my waist) Food is fundamental and exploring quality food elevates us the same way other arts ans crafts do, by making us think a bit more.

I encourage you to watch the live video at www.worldbaristachampionship.com tomorrow (june 5th 2011). If you miss it, to watch the videos afterward. Its kinda interesting, put coffee in a whole new light. It also highlights one of the major exports of El Salvador.

Appreciation for quality is the difference between pennies per pound, and dollars per pound. Who knew snobbery could help the economy? Taking it even farther, cheap coffee is not just cheaper, but a lower percentage of it´s end price goes to the producers, whereas gourmet coffee is not just more per pound, but a higher percentage of that higher price goes to the farm. So think about that when you call your friend who wont drink Folger´s a snob. And once again, I don´t back up my numbers.
